Eliminating Carbohydrates a False Premise!

Most people believe the dieting rule that you are supposed to eliminate carbohydrates in your diet whenever you can in order to lose weight. A popular diet that suggests doing this is the Adkins diet.
My purpose is not to bash Adkins or any other diet. Many of these diets have worked and helped many people lose weight. The key here is that it is a diet that is usually destined to work only in the short run. It is not a diet that you can live with and sustain as your lifestyle. You can lose weight with a low carbohydrate or no carbohydrate diet, however, if you are a person who has trouble sticking with a diet or losing weight long-term, it will be impossible for you to have lasting results and sustained success.
Let’s first look at how a low carbohydrate diet will help you lose weight. Eliminating carbohydrates will eliminates food choices and this is why it cannot be sustained. You can eat lots of meats and other foods you might enjoy but you will not able to eat the bread and pasta meals you and millions of others have enjoyed your entire life. The reason it works is you can’t eat all those other delicious foods and by not eating them you are getting rid of many of the calories you might have otherwise consumed.
Science tells you when you are on a no or low carbohydrate diet like this, your body produces what is called Ketosis. Your body is burning off fat, and it is also burning away some of your muscle. The Ketosis that happens in this way is mainly extracted through your kidneys, ridding your body of excess water and this loss of water appears as if you are losing weight. You are losing weight and a large portion is water weight and not as much fat as you might like.

So you have been diligent and followed a diet free of carbohydrates, you are thrilled to see that you’re losing so much weight. In fact, you’re even getting compliments from friends and family members, and you feel absolutely wonderful because of your success.
Your diet success may continue and even be sustained. This is the result that we truly hope for and it would be absolutely wonderful if this was the case for everyone. Sadly this is rarely the case. It is very hopeful and not very assured to rely on this type of diet alone. There are two main reasons
First and most probable your body may rebel from this kind of diet and it is probable it will over time. Your body will adjust to the Ketosis. This halts your weight loss and your body may begin putting weight on again stronger than ever. Since your body has adjusted, the hunger will probably return, which results in your success turning into another failure.
Now if you are one of the few who don’t fall into the first category, reason two why your low carbohydrate diet may be a mistake is because you’re depriving yourself of many foods you enjoy and love. Even though your diet is low calorie, you’re still eliminating a lot of foods that are actually healthy and your body is used to. Now you realize you’ve gotten rid of foods you like and many foods that are good for you, it’s no wonder your body and mind may reject the diet after a while.
Depriving yourself of food is a false premise in the world of weight loss. If you’re experiencing doubt about your dieting choices, stay tuned, the next article will help you make up your mind.
